4 Herby Cocktails for the 4th of July


Having a barbecue for the Fourth? Need a few drink ideas and want to use some herbs to spice things up? You’ve come to the right place!

1. Red, White, and Blue Mojito

15 fresh mint leaves
1 lime
4 teaspoons sugar
1 tray ice
2 cup white rum
2 cup club soda

Make simple syrup with sugar and water (1:1). Squeeze lime into a mixture of syrup, rum, and club soda. Throw in ice and mint leaves then stir well to get the mint flavor mixed in. Serves 4.

2. All American Slushy

5 fresh basil leaves
5 fresh lemon balm leaves
3 trays ice
1 cup Blue Curacao
1 cup cranberry juice
1 cup vodka
1 cup lemonade

Make 3 separate slushies in a blender. Make the first one with ice, Blue Curacao and basil. The next with ice, cranberry juice, and and lemon balm. The last with ice, vodka, and lemonade. Pour them slowly one at a time into a glass, and put some leaves on top as garnish. Serves 4.

3. The Cilantro Sparkler

1 handful cilantro
½ cup coconut rum
2 ½ cups ginger ale
1 lemon
3 cups blueberries
1 tray ice
1 teaspoon honey
Coconut flakes

Mix rum, ginger ale, and ice. Squeeze a lemon inside, add blueberries, and stir well. Coat rim of a glass with honey and dip into coconut flakes. Pour into a glass and enjoy! Serves 4.

4. Patriotic Sangria

4 sprigs rosemary
1 bottle Pinot Noir
1 cup Brandy
1 juice orange
1 red apple
2 cups blueberries
2 cups blackberries
2 cups raspberries
2 cups strawberries

Cut up apple into thin slices and squeeze juice from orange. In a large container, mix all ingredients, and throw in some sprigs of rosemary. Add sugar to taste, stir, and chill in fridge. Serves 6.
